Over 100 Years of Caramel Tradition
It happened in the little town of Werther, Germany in 1909. That is where confectioner Gustav Nebel created his most perfect candy at the peak of his career. He took fresh cream, real butter, refined white sugar, brown rock sugar, a pinch of salt and plenty of time to create the now globally famous Butter Candy.

What Makes Werther’s Original Special?
Much has changed since Werther’s Original Hard Candies were first created. But some things have remained exactly the same. Our candies are made with only the finest ingredients, and blended together with the same passion and care our first candy maker, Gustav Nebel, brought to every caramel he crafted. That’s how we make sure every Werther’s Original has the familiar taste you love.
Today’s Werther’s Original
The irresistible hard caramel candy created by Gustav Nebel over 100 years ago is still, to this day, one of the most popular and best selling caramel candies in the world. In fact, people in over 100 countries consider it a favourite, making Werther’s Original the most international of the Storck family of brands.
In 2010, the Werther’s Original caramel shop was established in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park.
Luckily, some things never change – each caramel creation is made with loving care and proudly bears the Werther’s Original name.
